Nil creative website

I was researching gallerys when I came across this website, its amazing.
This website is about Nil Takipte, one of the most creative people selected by Turkish Times.
Her website is all about her gallery, it is completely interactive and fun to use. However she dosnt have any information about herself or her work.
What I particularly like about her gallery is how it appears effortless. you can choose to view the photos in a variety of ways, but it is still easy to use and navigate through. It really seems like a website purely for her and admirers, as it just has her favorite photos, and media.

Good website fundamentals

I came across this website when I was thinking about the fundamentals of a website, and what a good website should have. These were some of the pointers that were suggested:
  • Meets the needs of the target visitor
This means that the website should load quickly, work well, and be easy to navigate.
  • Is credible
Meaning that it should be profressional in appearance, have quality graphics, a balanced colour pallet, and have a good layout. It also means that it should function properly, free of errors, and provide relevant information.
  • Meets your objectives
What you set out to achieve. The basic concept of your website should be obvious and interesting.

This is the website where I found information about what makes a good website:

I needed to create another box for my website so I researched a tutorial to teach me how to do this. This particular tutorial wasnt that specific to what I was asking, however I was able to understand the basic points he was making, which were to insert another box, in my case a footer, and adjust the CSS style to suit my website. Besides becoming familiar with what he was teaching I found this to be one of the best set up tutorials, with alot of thought put into it. This is why im putting it up on my research blog, because I thought it was communicated well which made it a bit easier to get out the specific information I was after.

Basic CSS

I thought about what the basics of web design was made up of, and one element is CSS.
To simply understand what CSS is Ive found a YouTube clip outlining this.
What I understood from this was that CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. This creates and adds aesthetics to a web site.  CSS gives control over fonts, sizing, colours, and other such elements. It communicates across all the web pages making it easier to update and control your websites style.
This was helpful for me to get a clear understanding over something that can appear to be quite complex when trying to change and understand in a limited time frame.

Tutorial from Edward Johnson

Im finding the links a little difficult to get right so I researched "webdesign links tutorial" on youtube.
Edward Johnson gives a demonstration on how to add links. He also shows how to make a simple menu bar.
I found this easy to understand as he communicated fairly clearly. I could just pause youtube to try to re-create what he was doing. This is something that I often find sounds simple enough to do, but when I try to do it myself, becomes more complicated, which is why its helpful to have tutorials such as this one to remind you how to achieve a certain aspect of web design.
